PestInsight

IBADAN, Nigeria — PestInsight Initiative, a global pest management training and education platform based in Ibadan, Nigeria, has opened scholarship applications for its Public Health and Environmental Management Apprenticeship Program.

The three-month structured program is designed to develop a new generation of field-ready pest management and environmental health professionals, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on industry experience.

The application deadline is Saturday, April 25 and the program's duration is three months (one month virtual and two months of the physical bootcamp and internship). People can apply online here: www.pestinsight.org/scholarships. Early applications are strongly encouraged as selection is competitive and available slots are limited, PestInsight said.

About the Program. The PestInsight Apprenticeship is built around a practical, career-focused structure for participants to gain both knowledge and real-world experience before entering the workforce, the initiative said.

The program runs in two phases:

  • Phase 1 (virtual training): Expert-led sessions covering foundational theory, safety standards and industry frameworks
  • Phase 2 (physical bootcamp & internship): Hands-on training and real-world field experience with vetted industry partners

By the end of the program, PestInsight said participants will be equipped not just with knowledge, but with practical competence and industry exposure required to operate effectively in pest management and environmental health roles.

What Participants Will Learn. The curriculum is designed with operational relevance and includes:

  • Pest biology, vector identification and behavior
  • Urban and structural pest management techniques
  • Vector control and disease prevention
  • Safe pesticide handling and regulatory compliance
  • Environmental health systems and sanitation frameworks
  • Field operations, reporting and equipment handling
  • Business development and entrepreneurship in pest control

Who Should Apply. The scholarship is open to individuals across Nigeria who are ready to build a career in the industry:

  • Graduates and undergraduates in science, health or environmental fields
  • NYSC corps members seeking professional advantage
  • Job seekers looking to enter a practical, in-demand field
  • Entrepreneurs aiming to start or formalize a pest control business
  • Individuals with a strong interest in public health and environmental management

Selected applicants will receive fully funded or subsidized access.

Addressing a National Need. Nigeria continues to face increasing challenges related to poor sanitation, vector-borne diseases and environmental health risks, according to PestInsight. Despite this, there remains a shortage of trained professionals capable of delivering effective, field-level pest management solutions.

The PestInsight Apprenticeship directly addresses this gap by:

  • Building a pipeline of trained professionals
  • Strengthening public health response capacity
  • Creating sustainable employment and entrepreneurship pathways
