PestInsight Initiative Celebrates World Pest Day 2026 with Apprenticeship Program Onboarding

IBADAN, Nigeria — In commemoration of World Pest Day 2026, the PestInsight Initiative hosted a special live event that brought together pest management professionals, environmental health practitioners, students, researchers and industry stakeholders to celebrate the important role of pest management in protecting public health and communities.

The event also marked the official onboarding and orientation of participants in the PestInsight Apprenticeship Program, a workforce development initiative designed to equip aspiring pest management professionals with industry knowledge, practical skills, mentorship and career development opportunities.

Held under the theme, "Developing the Next Generation of Pest Management Professionals for a Healthier Future," the event highlighted the growing need for skilled professionals capable of addressing pest-related public health challenges while promoting professional excellence within the industry, PestInsight said. 

Speaking during the event, representatives of the PestInsight Initiative emphasized the critical role of pest management professionals in safeguarding homes, businesses, food systems and public health.

A key highlight of the program was the official welcome of the newest cohort of apprentices who will participate in the PestInsight Apprenticeship Program. Through the program, PestInsight said participants will receive structured learning, industry mentorship, exposure to best practices and opportunities to engage with experienced professionals across various areas of pest management and vector control.

The event featured a World Pest Day keynote presentation, introductions to program facilitators, discussions on career pathways within pest management, public health and vector control conversations, networking opportunities and an interactive question-and-answer session.

As part of the World Pest Day celebrations, PestInsight Initiative said it also launched a special professional recognition campaign titled "Celebrate Your Expertise. Share Your Professionalism." The initiative enables pest management professionals to create personalized World Pest Day graphics featuring their professional profile, area of expertise, company information, contact details, QR code and pest management tips. The campaign aims to recognize industry professionals while increasing public awareness of the value of professional pest management services, according to PestInsight. 

World Pest Day is observed annually to raise awareness of the essential role of professional pest management in protecting public health, food safety, property, and quality of life. The day also serves as an opportunity to highlight the contributions of pest management professionals and encourage greater collaboration across the industry.
