The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) released the FY 2025 Sampling Summary report, which includes results from domestic microbiological and chemical sampling programs for beef, pork, Siluriformes, poultry and egg products.

The report also includes data from other FSIS sampling programs and projects, including results for chemical and microbiological sampling of imported products.

Pathogen results reported by product category

FSIS organizes microbiological data by product and hazard, including Salmonella, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) and Listeria monocytogenes. For each category, the agency reports the number of samples analyzed and the percent of positive results.

Sampling results include pathogen detections across raw product categories, with Salmonella frequently identified in poultry products and STEC testing concentrated in raw beef components such as manufacturing trimmings and other non-intact products.

For ready-to-eat products, the report includes both product and environmental sampling results for Listeria monocytogenes.

Residue violations remain low

The report also summarizes findings from the National Residue Program, which tests for veterinary drugs, pesticides and environmental contaminants.

FSIS reported high compliance rates, with only a small percentage of samples identified as violative. Results are broken down by species and compound type.
