The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) held a public meeting June 15 to allow the public to share information on continued implementation of the Food Traceability Rule (FTR) and areas of remaining concern. The recording is now available.
The FTR — established under Section 204 of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) — requires covered entities that manufacture, process, pack or hold foods on the FDA Food Traceability List to maintain additional records that aim to allow FDA to more rapidly and accurately trace food through the supply chain. Companies must comply with the rule by July 20, 2028.
The meeting addressed lot-level tracking concerns and flexibilities for compliance. FDA released a discussion paper ahead of the meeting with information and questions to help inform the agency’s engagements with stakeholders. Submit feedback on the discussion paper here by July 15.
The meeting recording and related transcripts can be found on FDA’s public meeting webpage.
