The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reopening the comment period for the Request for Information (RFI) on butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) in human food and as a food contact substance for 30 days.
The new deadline for submitting comments, data and scientific information will be announced when the reopening notice is published in the Federal Register, said FDA.
The agency said it is reopening the comment period in response to stakeholder requests for additional time to compile and submit relevant data and scientific information.
BHT is used to prevent spoilage of fats and oils and can be found in food products including breakfast cereals, frozen pizza, frozen meals, baking mixes, cookies, chewing gum and meat products.
Electronic comments may be submitted through Regulations.gov using docket number FDA-2026-N-2526. Written comments should be submitted to the Dockets Management Staff (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5630 Fishers Lane, Room 1061, Rockville, MD 20852, and should identify docket number FDA-2026-N-2526.Latest from Quality Assurance & Food Safety
