The Face of Remote Sensing Technology

Remote sensing systems for rodent control are transforming how the food processing industry protects its facilities, says Chris Mueller, vice president at IFC. By integrating sensors into multi-catch traps and bait stations, these systems capture pest activity when it is detected, reducing the frequency of manual inspections. One of the greatest advantages is increased efficiency, where time can be reduced checking empty devices while focusing inspections where actually needed. In addition, remote sensing creates a digital record of activity, providing comprehensive information of pest activity for detailed analysis. This level of information facilitates a proactive, data-driven pest management program.

Remote systems provide continuous monitoring, offering insights into rodent behavior patterns and high-risk areas within and around a facility. Chris believes this technology represents the future of pest management in food processing and distribution because it aligns with broader industry trends toward automation, data analytics and preventive pest management.
