CSQ Invites Public Comments on EU GMP Addendum

ST. LOUIS — CSQ, an accredited cannabis/hemp safety and quality certification program, published its new EU GMP Addendum, initiating the official public comment period for industry stakeholders to weigh in on the program and audit requirements.  CSQ’s addendum is meant to help producers of cannabinoid materials and products across the globe verify that their product meets EudraLex Volume 4, Parts 1 & 2, and Annex 7 (EU-GMP) regulatory requirements for medicinal herbal products.

CSQ said the EU GMP Addendum is not a standalone regulatory certification. Instead, it’s a third-party validation of a producer’s existing certification issued by a “Competent Authority,” proving the producer’s compliance with EU-GMP regulatory requirements for potential buyers.

From the producer’s perspective, the CSQ EU-GMP Addendum is an additional third-party verification that provides a paper trail of compliance, proving that the producer is not greenwashing the supply chain, CSQ said. The term “greenwashing” in this case refers to a deceptive practice where products are imported and then falsely labeled as being EU GMP certified before being sold across Europe. 

“It’s crucial for operators, regulators, and suppliers across the globe to weigh in on this, because the greenwashing must come to an end. When a pharmacist in Europe sells a medical cannabinoid product to a patient, they shouldn’t have to question whether or not that product is safe, or if GMPs were followed, they should know without a doubt. That’s what our EU GMP Addendum is meant to do,” said Darwin Millard, technical director of CSQ.

The CSQ Certification Program is based on ASTM, ISO, cGMP/cGACP, HACCP, and other internationally recognized standards and best practices. CSQ said the program provides a roadmap for organizations to continuously improve their processes and achieve a best-in-class cannabis safety & quality management system. 

Stakeholders, regulators, and other industry experts are encouraged to provide feedback from now until June 1st by downloading the CSQ 2.0 EU GMP Addendum document and submitting responses through the public comment form available online at www.csqcertification.com/public-comment.

Audits to the finalized Addendum, including all public comment feedback, will commence in Q4 2026.
