Name: Ixora coccinea. Common name: Flame of the woods. Description: A tropical beauty with dark-green leaves and bright clusters of red, orange or yellow flowers. Ixora grows 5-10 feet tall. It flowers throughout the summer. Hardiness: This tender tropical is hardy only in Zones 9-11. Landscape use: It grows best in full sun. Use in containers or in the landscape paired with other tropicals. It also makes a nice hedge in the appropriate climate. Ixora has moderate drought tolerance. Propagation: By cuttings in spring or by seed. |
