Name: Alcea rosea ‘Halo White.’ Description: Spikes of large, creamy-white single-petaled flowers are highlighted with lemon-yellow centers. Flowers are 5 inches in diameter. Grows to 6 feet high and flowers in late summer. Landscape use: Makes a spectacular show in the back of a border. Plant in moist but well-drained soil. Grows best in full sun. Often categorized as a biennial, hollyhocks will act more as a perennial if the flower spikes are cut back before they develop mature seeds. Sunny Border Nurseries recommends letting a flower spike or two mature to allow the seeds to drop. Attributes: Flowers are edible. Flowers the first year from seed.
