Name: Daphne odora
Common name: Winter daphne, fragrant daphne
Description: Fragrant daphne is aptly named. The scent of this evergreen shrub can envelop an entire neighborhood. Leaves are green and leathery. Pink buds in January open to a cluster of light pink flowers in February and March. It grows 3-4 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide.
Hardiness: USDA Hardiness Zones 7-9.
Landscape uses: Grows best in partial shade and when kept out of the afternoon sun. It requires well-drained soil. D. odora is reported as a poisonous plant, which may be a consideration of its placement in the landscape.
Propagation: By seed.
