Editor's Note: This article originally appeared in the HILA Class of 2026 print edition of Nursery Management under the headline “Vicki Lima.”

Vicki Lima has worked at Lima Greenhouses since she was 18, 45 years ago. She’s now the owner and has her own garden center named after her, but you’ll still find her cleaning the restrooms.
Vicki on her leadership style: “I’m very proactive. I don’t have anybody do anything I wouldn’t do myself. When it comes to even cleaning the restrooms, I have that duty, as well as my employees. And so, I’m not afraid to get my hands in the dirt. I’m not afraid to work the register. I’m not afraid to go down and pull orders. I’m not afraid to help in any way that I can. If we’re going to work late, I’m going to be right in there with the rest of my crew. … You want to do the best by your plants, by your employees, by your customers.”
