IBADAN, Nigeria — The PestInsight Initiative, a global youth-focused project founded by Shofu Babalola, has launched the PestInsight Apprenticeship Program and PestInsight Academy, two platforms designed to train and certify young professionals in pest management, environmental health and the business of pest control.
The PestInsight Public Health & Environmental Management Apprenticeship Program (PPHEMAP) is a three-month blended training that combines online learning, fieldwork and community projects. It aims to equip participants from Africa and beyond with hands-on skills in pest control, vector management, sanitation and agricultural hygiene.
Running from June to August 2026, the program includes online theory sessions, field training through local partners and a global certification ceremony. PestInsight plans to train more than 1,000 young professionals by 2030 to strengthen careers in pest management, environmental services and sanitation entrepreneurship.
The newly launched PestInsight Academy offers self-paced and instructor-led online courses on topics including urban and agricultural pest management, vector control, chemical safety and pest control business management. Students can earn globally recognized certificates and educators can publish courses and earn from enrollments.
PestInsight is seeking partnerships with institutions, NGOs and public health organizations to expand the reach and recognition of its programs.
As part of its outreach, PestInsight recently hosted a “PestInsight for Schools” event at the University of Ibadan, raising awareness about bedbug infestations and preventive hygiene. The initiative will expand to more schools across Africa.
“Public health is global, and pest management plays a vital role in it,” said Babalola. “We are nurturing innovators and entrepreneurs who will lead the next phase of sustainable pest control worldwide.”
PestInsight, powered by SB Super Pest Solutions, promotes pest management education, environmental hygiene and public health awareness across Africa and beyond.
