Arrow Exterminating, Lynbrook, N.Y., was announced as the winner of PCT’s first-ever Vehicle Wrap Contest with its “Pest Bus” vehicle wrap. PCT received more than 60 entries for the contest, which was sponsored by Oldham Chemicals Company.
The wrap was the brainchild of Arrow Exterminating Co-Owner Jackie Grabin. “It was something we had wanted to do for many, many years,” she said. “For the longest time it wasn’t acceptable. People used to want unmarked vehicles in their driveway, but that has changed.”
About a year ago, Grabin — along with her sister and Co-Owner Debby Tappan, and Operations Manager Tom Jordan — collaborated on the Pest Bus concept and design. Jordan contacted a local artist, who took their vision and ran with it, bringing back several renderings. Arrow experimented with the placement of the logo, website and phone number, and the office staff helped determine what worked best, Grabin said.
Jordan then contracted with Long Island-based G Dezine Wraps to wrap four vehicles — two of the company’s Dodge Ram ProMaster vans and two Dodge cargo vans. The wraps are definitely catching people’s attention, just as Grabin had hoped. “We had Tom Jordan drive alongside the [wrapped] van in an unmarked car. Children would see it, point to it, then poke their parents and they would see it.”
In addition to serving as a moving billboard for Arrow, the wrap has been a great promotional tool, Grabin said. For example, Arrow Exterminating does radio advertising and the company will prominently park the wrapped truck at radio events.
Arrow Exterminating was founded in 1947 by Bernard Stegman and the company today is led by his daughters, Grabin and Tappan. Arrow Exterminating wins $500 from PCT. The following photo review shows the winning and finalist entries from this year’s contest.
