Beside pay and recognition, employer-sponsored benefits influence workplace satisfaction.
According to the 2019 PCT/NPMA Workplace Survey, nearly all workers (92 percent) said they were eligible to receive some kind of benefits, which included paid time off or vacation (86 percent), medical insurance (83 percent), retirement plans (71 percent), and/or life insurance (68 percent).
A pest control technician in Stillwater, Okla., who previously worked in manufacturing, was pleased with her benefits. “It’s pretty good. It’s the first time I’ve had health insurance so I appreciate it,” she said.
Companies like Sprague Pest Solutions design benefit packages to appeal to a multi-generational workforce. “We’re always looking for diverse and new types of benefits to implement and ways to make people’s lives better,” said Leila Haas of Sprague.
The company’s leadership and technical development programs, such as support for earning Associate and Board Certified Entomologist designations, rank high with employees, said Haas. “We do whatever it takes to help people learn and take on new knowledge,” she said.
Arrow Exterminators pays close attention to employee feedback. In addition to improving the onboarding process, training opportunities, holiday pay for commissioned team members and starting wages for commissioned and administrative positions, the company awarded all employees a new annual floating holiday after being named an Atlanta Top Workplace in 2019.
“We wanted to show our appreciation for everyone and their efforts each and every day,” said Shay Runion.
