International Society for Horticultural Science releases guide to resources about plant water flow, status

The International Society for Horticultural Science has released a new free guide to the best scientific papers, websites and software that offer information on measurements of plant water flow and plant water status.

Created by the ISHS Working Group, led by Chair Rafael Poyatos, the guide, titled "Sensing Plant Water Status," explores methodological foundations of investigation, data-processing resources, current global databases and initiatives, and manufacturers of interest to anyone concerned with plant water flow and status.

"At the global scale, the amount of water transpired by plants exceeds that transported by all rivers to the oceans," ISHS said in a news release. "Plant water economy strongly influences plant productivity and survival. Quantifying plant water transport and status is essential to assess stress responses."

Data streams available in global databases create the potential to share data, protocols and data-processing routines. This open data approach can accelerate synthesis and modelling to improve our understanding of vegetation functioning and inform crop management.
