 Name: Cercidiphyllum japonicium. Common name: Katsura tree. Habit: Pyramidal when young. Grows up to 60 feet tall and 40 feet wide. This deciduous tree has a moderate growth rate. Foliage emerges with an unusual bronze tint and gradually takes on a rich bluish green color in the summer, turning yellow to apricot-orange in fall, according to J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co. Hardiness: USDA Zones 4-8. Best trait: Shows of foliage color during the spring, summer and fall. In the landscape: Makes an excellent shade tree. Cultivars: ‘Amazing Grace,’ ‘Raspberry.’ |
